Dragons
Dragons make great pets! Australia is home to approximately seventy species of dragons. Most dragon species display similar behaviour. When threatened or angry, dragons respond with a high speed exit, some species will enlarge the neck area and take a tough stance! Some dragons can be tamed very easily and will happily become part of your family!
Housing dragons isn't difficult at all. Dragons associate heat with light therefore it is important to provide radiant heat and broad spectrum light (including basking lamp and UV light). Gippsland and Eastern Water dragons can also be kept in half water / land aquariums. They love to sit on branches above the water. The most important thing is to make sure they are able to get out of the water and dry out!
Breeding dragons is relatively simple too, however different species require varying set up requirements. It is important to ensure your female dragon has a good source calcium and Vitamin D3. This can be achieved by dusting all foods with calcium powder. It is difficult to provide enough Vitamin D3 through diet alone, therefore the correct UV lighting is very important. If you're setting up a colony, it's best to keep 1 male to 3 females.
Most will eat the usual insects, tinned cat / dog food and enjoy freshly chopped fruit and vegetables. All dragons require a good clean water supply, some may be reluctant to drink from a bowl so regular spraying with water ensures adequate water intake.
