Dragons

Dragons make great pets! There are many kinds of dragons allowed in Victoria, including Gippsland / Eastern Water dragons, Bearded dragons and Central Netted dragons just to name a few. Most will eat the usual insects and enjoy freshly chopped vegetables on a daily basis. Central Bearded dragons can be tamed very easily and will happily become part of your family!

Most dragon species display similar behaviour. When threatened or angry, dragons enlarge the neck area and take a tough stance! It's generally just for show and they will rarely bite. As they become older, most dragons will also take pinkies, tinned cat / dog food and large moths. Breeding dragons is relatively simple too, however they can become territorial and will fight through the seasons.

If you're setting up a colony, it's best to keep 1 male to 3 females. Housing dragons isn't difficult at all. All dragons need a basking lamp, UV light and a good clean water supply. Gippsland and Eastern Water dragons can also be kept in half water / land aquariums. They love to sit on branches above the water.
