Monitors
Monitors are the living dinosaurs of the modern age! They have been around for at least seventy million years. They hunt, they dig, they climb trees and some species can easily grow to well over 2 metres in length. As adults they can deliver a nasty, painful and bloody bite with claws that can make deep scratches into human skin. All sounds a bit nasty, but these lizards are fascinating creatures and if cared for correctly, can make a great pet.
Monitors are carnivorous and generally feed on any animals they can swallow. As juveniles they will eat insects, but as they grow, a mixed diet of small rodents, birds and insects can be fed. By nature they are foraging animals, venturing into the open rarely.
Housing monitors is relatively easy, they love hiding in hollow trees and under rocks. You'll need a large vivarium to house these active creatures. If the climate allows, they can be housed outside otherwise indoors with the correct temperature. The substrate depends on the natural habitat of the species.
PailsforScales supplies everything you need to make your monitor comfortable in their environment. They even have leads if you want to take them for a walk!
